Here are just a few questions we are asked often. If your question isn't answered here, please call the studio at 262-605-3951, or email us and we'll be happy to help.
Can I still register for classes?
The Kenosha Academy of Dance, Music and Drama accepts registrations through February. After February, we begin to work on recital choreography in our classes as well as continue with technique work.
Why are students in Ballet 2 encouraged to take class twice weekly?
Your body needs to adapt to the movement and to the positions. Like a musical instrument, you need to practice to keep growing. In ballet, practice is done in studio with a teacher present so you can be corrected as needed. A student who takes Ballet 2 twice weekly will likely advance to Ballet 3 after 2 years but a student who only takes class once a week will likely remain in Ballet 2 for three years.
When will be able to start on Pointe?
We usually look at starting pointe around age 12 or higher, depending on individual strength and bone growth. We are very careful to make sure our students are ready to begin pointe work and avoid any potential damage to the feet.
What is the difference between Jazz and Hip Hop?
Jazz is more of a technical dance form that has its roots in ballet. Jazz focuses on body alignment and placement. Hip Hop is very aerobic, fast-paced dance form with a more free dance form. Hip Hop can be for the beginning dancer all the way through the very experienced dancer. It is not focused on dance placement or alignment and doesn't require the flexibility and extension that jazz does. Hip Hop offers more freedom of movement. Anybody can do Hip Hop regardless of level or age.
Why do ballet students wear pink tights?
The light pink color of the tights allows teachers to see the muscle definitions in the legs and to see the leg muscles working. This in turn allows teachers to make adjustments in positioning.
